“Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket – keep it in your own.”

I read the following quote this morning and it really spoke to me personally. If it does something for me, then I hope it can reach out to someone else in need of hearing it as well:

“Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket – keep it in your own.”

Have you ever let someone else determine your level of happiness? If you’re anything like me… then the answer is most likely “yes”. I sure have, too many times at that.

There comes a point in your life when you have to sit back and look at your situation and ask yourself “Why do I let this person control my happiness?” Because in reality, no one should control that but yourself. Sure, people do and say hurtful things that are upsetting to you, but it’s up to you to make the best or worse of the situation. You can mope around, point fingers at everyone but yourself and wait around for a pity party… Or, you can turn the negative energy built up inside into something productive and positive and embrace this moment you’ve been given and make the best out of it. From every negative comes a positive (whether we choose to find it or not).

So now’s the time to reclaim that key that belongs to you. Don’t let someone else control your happiness. Take control yourself, for yourself. You deserve that power.

  • Ashley,
I really appreciate the words that you shared about this quote..

  • Ashley,
What a timely message to share. Trying to please others is a dead end street when it leaves you constricted and upset. You have the choice of what brings you happiness, no one else. Those who love and care for you will benefit when you are able to choose your path. This is not selfishness, it’s balance.

    Awesome topic!
    Val 🙂

  • Hi Ashley,

It’s so true that we are the only ones in control of our happiness. When You blame others for making you upset/sad/unhappy, you give all your power away so if they don’t do what you want them to do to ‘make it better’ then you’re pretty much stuck. Not a great place to be!

  • Amen!! WE control our happiness, not others. I appreciate your input Denise. Have a great Friday!

  • Thank you for the kind words Val. I always love to hear from you. You are so right. We can’t always strive to please others when we aren’t pleasing ourselves.

Have a fantastic weekend Val, and take care.

  • I’m so glad to see you enjoyed this:)
